Folio Seven
Branding, design and build a website that allows for artists to showcase their work using tiered memberships.
Branding
Folio Seven is a platform designed to showcase artists to those who are looking to hire them, by displaying their top seven pieces of work.
The brief for this brand was multi-faceted:
- It shouldn’t be too corporate, but shouldn’t alienate a corporate audience
- High contrast and vibrancy
- It needs to work as a symbol as well as a full logomark
- Needs to appeal to creatives
- Should have a somewhat retro feel, that is reminiscent of older style creative sites such as DeviantArt
With all of this in mind, we created the branding that would then carry through to the website and other web assets.

Website Design and Build
This was a complex WordPress build that needed to house a full membership system, handle payments, handle subscription-based user permissions, and remain easy to use.
It’s a good thing we love a challenge! We used a number of carefully selected, highly rated plugins to achieve this. The site is secure, can handle encrypted payments for subscriptions, and appropriately allows artists to utilise its features depending on the kind of membership they have signed up for.
The key thing we wanted to do was put the artwork front and centre. This site was built as a platform by artists, for artists, so that they could easily show their work without having to wade through social media algorithms.
It was also vital that the interface be easy for artists and supporters alike to use. They needed to be able to easily update their profiles, control their information, modify their membership options, and update their art. We wanted this to be user-friendly, and not require the users to see the WordPress dashboard.
In addition to this, because this site allows for user uploads, we also needed to implement moderation processes. This has been done at the user sign up stage, and at the artwork submission stage, through automated notifications to the client.
The final build was fully optimised for page speed and performance. We set up CDN content serving, high-quality image compression, and ensured accessibility best practices were followed.

Organic SEO
Part of the website build process also included following best practices for organic SEO.
There are a huge number of factors that impact a website’s ranking. Some of this is making sure that the site is well optimised for performance and accessibility, but having quality metadata for each page is also very important. We both produced and implemented this metadata, making sure we incorporated effective keywords.
